Double Scotch: A Malt Whisky Tour from Glasgow
SUMMARY: Visit two great Highland Malt Whisky Distilleries whilst experiencing the beauty of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park.
This is a great introduction to the history of whisky distilling in Scotland AND the dramatic scenery of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs. Departing from Glasgow this tour will travel north to Loch Lomond, Scotland’s largest lake, before making our first stop of the day at Glengoyne Distillery. After lunch we will continue through the Trossachs National Park before stopping at Deanston Distillery for a further tour and tasting.
Our return journey to Glasgow takes us past Doune Castle (made famous in the movie Monty Python and The Holy Grail and, more recently, the TV series Outlander), Stirling Castle, and Bannockburn.
HIGHLIGHTS & KEY LOCATIONS: Glengoyne Distillery, Deanston Distillery, Malt Whisky Tastings, Loch Lomond, the Trossachs, Doune Castle.
ITINERARY: Our day starts by travelling north from Glasgow to ‘the, bonnie, bonnie banks’ of Loch Lomond. We then head east to the village of Dumgoyne, nestling at the foot of the Campsie Hills and home to Glengoyne Distillery. Here we will enjoy a tour lasting approximately 60 minutes, finishing with a tutored nosing and tasting of some of Glengoyne’s best single malts.
Our lunch stop will be at a local pub, specialising in locally sourced produce and a chance to sample some more great single malts and local craft beers.
Following lunch we can travel through the beautiful Trossachs National Park, made famous by the writings of Sir Walter Scott, before arriving at Deanston Distillery, which sits on the banks of the River Teith, where we will enjoy another tour and tasting.
If time permits we will visit Doune Castle, once home to the noble Stewart family and more recently used to film the popular TV series ‘Outlander’. Our return journey to Glasgow takes us past the dramatic back-drop of Stirling Castle and the Wallace Monument.
OVERNIGHT STOPS & ACCOMMODATION: Although this is a one-day tour departing from Glasgow, you may wish to extend your stay to include additional highlights of the Trossachs and Stirling, such as Stirling Castle, the Wallace Monument, or even a steamship cruise on Loch Katrine. We are happy to provide recommendations for attractions and places to stay.
PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES: Loch Lomond, the Trossachs, Glengoyne Distillery, Deanston Distillery, Doune Castle, Stirling Castle (NB although photography is not allowed within distillery production areas, there are opportunities to take photos in certain places within the distilleries).
