Green Tourism

Here at Select Scotland Tours we value the landscape integrity, habitats and beauty of the land in which we live and work. We are delighted to announce that in December 2020 were were awarded the Green Tourism Business Scheme Gold Award in recognition of our contribution to sustainable tourism in Scotland.

We joined Green Tourism in 2017 and over the last three years have progressed steadily from Bronze to Silver and now to the highest-level Gold Award.
The Green Tourism assessors highlighted the excellent work that has been carried out by the SST team in the area of sustainable tourism, including planting native trees in our own grove as part of the Trees For Life carbon offset scheme – 218 trees so far! The assessors also emphasised our commitment to recycling all waste generated whilst on tour, using green energy suppliers for domestic energy, and participating in numerous community programmes including beach cleaning, litter picking and other environmental schemes. We remain dedicated to partnering with like-minded attractions, cafes and restaurants which use local and ethically sourced produce.

We are fully committed to sustainable and responsible tourism. In order to do this, we will:

  • Reduce, reuse and recycle
  • Offset our carbon footprint by planting native woodland in Highland Scotland through support for The Trees for Life initiative.
  • Promote sustainable transportation options before, during and after our tours
  • Ensure all our guides drive in a fuel efficient manner, minimising carbon emissions, through participation in the Transport Scotland sponsored FuelGood Driver Training
  • Support ‘Green Tourism’ businesses, local and sustainable food producers, and environmentally friendly visitor attractions
  • Respect the countryside and our natural heritage, working within environmental legislation at all times, including the Scottish Outdoor Access Code
  • Raise awareness about environmental issues among the team, fellow businesses and visitors
  • Promote Scotland as a ‘Green Destination’ to clients by highlighting such initiatives as renewable energy, and sustainable farming, forestry and fishing
  • Remain committed to developing and adopting new ‘green’ initiatives where possible
